My ACEO "An Egg Dares to Try to Fly" Selected to Appear in Online Journal "Literacyhead"

As the first post in my visual art blog, I am happy to announce that the editors for the online journal, Literacyhead: Lessons for Teaching Literacy through Art, selected my ACEO An Egg Dares to Try to Fly to appear in Vol.1, Issue 19: The Character Development Issue, September 8 to September 20, 2010. (NOTE: After September 20, 2010, you will have to subscribe to Literacyhead in order to see back copies of the journal.) My 2.5" x 3.5" mixed-media collage appears on the "Visual Vocabulary: Images for Teaching Words" page to teach students about the word courage which appears in Anette Bley's A Friend (one of the highlighted books for this issue).

My scholarly research in visual imagery and writing go back to my doctoral dissertation, to several articles I have published in scholarly journals, and to my co-edited book Language and Image in the Reading-Writing Classroom: Teaching Vision. However, the fact that one of my pieces of visual art will aid students in their literacy development ("an image is worth a thousand words") delights my heart and soul!
